Characteristics of Silver and Other Electroplated Thimbles

source:Industry News release time:2021-04-27 Article author:sznbone Popular:POGO PIN

After the spring thimble connector is processed by precision CNC machine tools, in order to improve the conductivity, wear resistance, welding strength, oxidation resistance, and corrosion prevention of the spring thimble, it is necessary to put on a protective cover-"plating".I will introduce to you the characteristics of different electroplating materials used in spring thimble connectors and the properties of electroplating materials.

  Tin

Three types of tin plating: pre-tin plating; pre-cladding layer; electroplating.

The characteristics of tin: tin is relatively soft, prevents corrosion, is relatively cheap, and is easy to solder, and the thickness of the plating layer is 2-12μ

Color: silvery white, dark or shiny.

The temperature resistance of tin-plated brass or bronze is 110 degrees, and the tin-plated steel can reach 190 degrees.

  Gold

Gold electroplating is the best quality coating method for electrical contacts. It is soft, very corrosion-resistant, insoluble in pure acid, has good conductivity, and is more expensive. Therefore, it is more reasonable to replace the gold plating process, which means that it is only in the appropriate range. Gold-plated inside.

Gold plating usually chooses nickel plating first to achieve better anti-corrosion effect.

  Palladium

The precious metal palladium is used for electroplating instead of gold in some limited areas. AMP only uses palladium on the metal solder layer (hard gold method)

The conductivity of palladium is worse than that of gold.

  Nickel

More precious, silver-white metal, poor conductivity, hard, smooth surface, often used for gold-plated bottom plating, poor weldability, steel contacts are mostly nickel-plated, and copper must be plated first. Nickel-plated copper can withstand a temperature of 340 degrees, and brass and bronze can reach 250 degrees.

  Silver

Glossy white, precious metal, soft, good conductivity, easy to inert oxidation, so it is easy to lose luster, brass or bronze tinned can withstand temperature of 110 degrees, and copper can withstand temperature of 250 degrees.

  Copper

Copper is often used for basic plating; tinned contacts can improve solderability; for better adhesion, steel chooses more copper plating.
